Our Mission

The Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministry serves those who connect youth and young adults with Jesus Christ, each other, the Church and its mission.  We provide resources, training, formation and programs for ministry with younger and older adolescents and young adults. We help parishes and other faith communities develop comprehensive approaches to these ministries. We support church leadership in engaging faith communities as they respond to the needs and include the gifts of youth and young adults.

Get ready to Know Mercy.  Pope Francis has announced a  jubilee Year of Mercy for the upcoming year (Dec. 8, 2015-Nov. 20, 2016), as a way for the church to "make more evident its mission to be a witness of mercy."  How will the young church of Buffalo celebrate this Year of Mercy?

By proclaiming KNOW MERCY at the 64th Annual Diocesan Youth Convention!

Where did this theme come from?

Well, in part from Pope Francis and the Vatican. But then we wanted to add our own local twist to it!

The young people on the Diocesan Youth Board had a wonderful conversation about what mercy means to them, and why it is important for young people.  After a lengthy discussion of options, they determined that the theme "Know Mercy" was the central message they wanted to send in this upcoming Year of Mercy.  They want their peers to come to know God's endless, boundless mercy and forgiveness . . . and they believe that, in knowing God's mercy, young people will be inspired and able to show mercy to others, and help them to know mercy, too.

It is our prayer that we will all accept the invitation to embrace the invitation to KNOW MERCY more deeply in the coming year.
